Attwood’s CSA: Community Sponsored Agriculture
We will not be offering a CSA during the Summer of 2015. Please revisit us Next Year!
Community Sponsored Agriculture (CSA) is a new idea in farming that has been gaining momentum since its introduction to the US from Europe in the mid-1980s. Basically, a CSA consists of a community of individuals who support a farm operation. Members, sometimes called “shareholders” of the farm pledge in advance to cover a portion of the operating costs of the farm. In return, they receive shares of the farm’s harvest throughout the growing season and also support a growing farm enterprise. By direct sales to the community members, who have provided the farmer with working capital, growers receive fair prices for their crops, gain some financial security and are relieved of some of the burden of marketing.
Our CSA is run a little differently. Currently, we do not have our members pay ahead but instead collect funds at the point of delivery. Cost for a share is $28 per week.
What’s in the weekly delivery?
Our weekly box consists of several favorite staples as well as changing seasonal products. We also have optional products for purchase to supplement your standard delivery.
In a typical mid-summer share, you’ll receive green and yellow beans, potatoes, tomatoes, corn, green and yellow squash, lettuce, cucumbers and an herb. In other words, we provide ten items, farmers’ choice, each week choosing the vegetables that are at their peak.
Please send us an email to see what optional products are available this week.
We are planning our longest season yet for 2015! Subscriptions are limited so be sure to confirm your participation early to secure your summer produce supply.
We are proud to be able to offer our CSA members Sugarloaf Farm’s raw milk cheeses.
